This a challenging walk up Benbeg and along a ridge to the top of Cuilcagh, starting from the Bellavally Gap beyond Swanlinbar.

We’ll climb 300 metres in total, with a lot of the ascent in the first mile as we climb up through a forest gravel track, then on to the open mountain of Benbeg.

It is very wet & muddy underfoot in places so boots & waterproofs / gaiters are essential. Poles will also be very useful as there are sections across heather to avoid muddier parts and also for the ascent and descent.

The weather looks to be on our side at the minute, but I’ve done 2 recces in the last month - one we had to turn back at the top of Benbeg due to no visibility, and the other was a lovely bright day if wet underfoot so plans my change if the weather does.

We’ll leave Omagh Leisure Centre as normal at 09:30, travelling to Enniskillen where we’ll take a Sligo Road out of town.

At the Three Way Inn we’ll take the road to Swanlinbar - the A32, which turns into the N87. We’ll pass through Swanlinbar, then turn right onto the R202 signposted Ballinamore and Gowra. Shortly after there’s another right turn onto the R200. We follow this road for four and a half miles when we’ll reach the starting point which is a lay-by where we’ll park.
